Music’s Unifying Power: Creating Shanghai Sonatas
Join us for an interactive webinar with the creative force behind Shanghai Sonatas. Entering its fourth year of creative process, Shanghai Sonatas is a new musical that shares the memoirs of Jewish classical musicians who escaped Nazi Germany and found refuge in Shanghai in the 1930s, and the Chinese who welcomed them there. The musical depicts a historical moment of equity, inclusion, tolerance, and cultural exchange.

This new UD musical was the last event the UD Master Players Concert Series presented before COVID-19. The creators will speak about the musical’s creative development, historical context, and intense workshop and rehearsal process leading up to the successful February premiere. This event is co-presented by the UD Master Players Concert Series and the UD Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and supported by the UD Partnership for Arts & Culture.
